Cindy was unable to transition to a rehabilitation hospital due to a new blood infection, her 4th in the past 3 weeks. The infusion “port” installed in her chest, used for Chemo and other drugs, has become “colonized” with VRE (Vancomycin Resistant Enterococci).
She is being treated with two antibiotics and must decided whether or not to have the port removed and a “pick line” installed. A waiting period of 2 days – infection free is required before continuing treatment. Cindy will remain in the hospital for a few more days.
This setback was disheartening for Cindy (and us). We are meeting with the Oncologist and social workers to determine the best course of action. As always Thank You for the kind thoughts and cards we continue to receive.
